Recognizing the need to increase the awareness on issues surrounding Pacific Lamprey and provide experts, practitioners, and other interested parties an opportunity to share information and techniques throughout the lamprey research and conservation community, beginning in 2017 the Pacific Lamprey Conservation Initiative’s (PLCI) Lamprey Technical Workgroup initiated an annual in-person Lamprey Information Exchange. Typically held the second week of December, over the years these have become popular annual events, increasing in size, scope and participation each year as interest and enthusiasm around lamprey have grown.

1st Annual Lamprey Info Exchange (2017)
On December 6-7, 2017, the Pacific Lamprey Conservation Team and Lamprey Technical Workgroup convened the first Information Exchange Technical Workshop at the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission headquarters in Portland, OR.
Experts in the fields of lamprey eDNA, passage, artificial propagation, translocation, and genetics presented their latest research in a casual setting to encourage information sharing across geographic areas.

2nd Annual Lamprey Info Exchange (2018)
In response to the success of the first workshop, the second Lamprey Information Exchange Workshop was held December 12-13, 2018, and was expanded to allow more people to attend and attracted more than 100 participants from a wide variety of organizations from across the country.
Topics included lamprey life history and behavior, climate change impacts, ocean phase, restoration and recolonization, and juvenile engineering and dredging investigations (JEDI).

3rd Annual Lamprey Info Exchange (2019)
On December 12-13, 2019, the Lamprey Technical Workgroup convened the 3rd Annual Lamprey Information Exchange at the Water Resources Education Center in Vancouver, WA.
Experts in the fields of lamprey traditional ecological knowledge, regulatory and management programs, innovative methods, other lamprey species, contaminants, and passage presented their latest research and engaged participants in a discussion to encourage information sharing across geographic areas.
6th Annual Lamprey Information Exchange
On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, PLCI’s Lamprey Technical Workgroup is excited to reconvene lamprey enthusiasts in-person for the 6th Annual Lamprey Information Exchange (Info Exchange) at the World Forestry Center in Portland, OR.
This event occurred the day after and in conjunction with Lamprey Summit V (on Dec 13th – also at the World Forestry Center). The Info Exchange dove deeper into many of the topics discussed at the Summit, including the 2022 Pacific Lamprey Assessment, and explored key threats, issues, and projects occurring throughout PLCI’s 18 Regional Management Units.

5th Annual Lamprey Information Exchange
Building off of the success of the 2021 Lamprey Information Exchange Webinar Series, the Lamprey Technical Workgroup is continuing the series in 2022 with six more webinars. Officially kicked off during the first official “Lamprey Week” in December 2021, and continue on the second Tuesday of each month through May 2022. Each webinar runs from 11:00am – 1:00pm Pacific Time and a full list of topics and speakers is included below.

4th Annual Lamprey Information Exchange
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 PLCI and the LTWG pivoted from an in-person Information Exchange to a monthly webinar series. The 4th Annual Lamprey Information Exchange Webinar Series was an overwhelming success, and the six webinars that ran every second Tuesday from January 2021 through June 2021 reached more than 1165 participants, and the webinar recordings continue to be viewed and enjoyed.
